Advisory – Below Normal Rainfall:

Below Normal rainfall persists across the Kiribati islands and this condition is expected to continue in the coming months. Hence the public is advised to take this message seriously in their daily usage of fresh water and to manage and use their public rainwater tanks wisely. The public is also encouraged to provide their full support, assistance and oversight to any rainwater harvesting projects in their respective villages to allow for maximum use of rainfall from time to time.

 

Gusty Winds – Advisory #18:

Gusty winds is still expected to affect the Northern Line Islands, especially Fanning and Washington islands. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize possible impacts.

 

 Swells – Advisory #9:

A north-easterly swell of 2.5 to 3.0 meters remains to affect the Northern Line and Phoenix groups. Residents are advised to take precautionary measures to minimize possible threats.

 

 

 

MORNING WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE NORTHERN LINE AND PHOENIX GROUPS ISSUED  AT 04:00-AM 30-TH MARCH, 2017 FROM THE KIRIBATI METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE IN BETIO AND VALID FROM 6-AM THIS MORNING UP TO 6-PM IN THE AFTERNOON

 

 

SITUATION:

The broad band of convective clouds known as the inter-tropical convergence zone which brings gusty winds, rain and thunderstorms remains over the Northern Line Islands.

 

WASHINGTON:

Moderate to fresh north-east to easterly winds of 11 to 18 knots and gusty at times to 20 knots.

Moderate to rough seas.

Cloudy with some showers.

Further Outlook: Brief showers.

 

FANNING:

Moderate to fresh north-east to easterly winds of 11 to 18 knots and gusty at times to 20 knots.

Moderate to rough seas.

Cloudy with some showers and heavy at times.

Further Outlook: Brief showers.

 

CHRISTMAS:

Gentle to moderate north-east to easterly winds of 7 to 15 knots and gusty at times to 20 knots.

Moderate to rough seas.

Cloudy with some showers and a few possible thunderstorms.

Further Outlook: Fine apart from brief showers.

 

PHOENIX:

Gentle to moderate easterly winds of 7 to 12 knots.

Moderate to rough seas.

Cloudy with some isolated showers and a few thunderstorms.

Further Outlook: Isolated showers.
