Providing reliable weather, climate, ocean and atmospheric information to support the safety, resilience and sustainable development of Kiribati.
Who We Are

Weather and Climate Services for Kiribati

The Kiribati Meteorological Service (KMS) is the national meteorological authority responsible for monitoring and providing information on weather, climate, ocean and atmospheric conditions affecting Kiribati.

Serving communities across the Gilbert, Phoenix and Line Islands, KMS provides timely and reliable information to help protect lives and property and support informed decision-making.

Through its observation networks and forecasting services, KMS monitors changing weather and climate conditions and provides forecasts, warnings, advisories and climate information to the public, government agencies and key sectors throughout Kiribati.

Our Role

Supporting a Safer and More Climate-Resilient Kiribati

KMS plays an important role in disaster risk reduction, public safety and climate resilience. Weather and climate information supports aviation, maritime transport, fisheries, agriculture, water resources, infrastructure, health and emergency management.

For a country consisting of widely dispersed and low-lying islands, access to accurate and timely weather and climate information is essential for preparedness, planning and sustainable development.
